On Friday, April 21, Bo-Tuan Huang, Vice President of Wistron, received an honorary doctorate degree in design from Tatung University. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Huang expressed his humility and gratitude towards his alma mater, stating that although he originally thought he had "no talent" in design, he learned design thinking, methodologies, Japanese language, and machinery, which not only provided him with multiple areas of expertise, but also aligned with the current trend of promoting "diverse learning" in the corporate world.
Dr. Huang graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at Tatung Institute of Technology, and held positions as the Vice President of Industrial Design at Sampo Corporation and Acer Computer, as well as the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer at Wistron Corporation. He is currently serving as the Vice President and General Manager of Wistron Corporation, responsible for the development of various start-ups under the Wistron Group.
Wistron Corporation is a leading global player in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, focusing on ICT products. The company has been recognized by Forbes' "Global 2000" list, Fortune's "Global 500" list, the Taiwan Stock Exchange's "Corporate Governance Evaluation: Top 5% of Listed Companies," and Clarivate's "Global 100 Innovators."
In addition to leading the development of start-ups within the Wistron Group, Dr. Huang is committed to giving back to education. He strongly believes that the digital transformation and agile development that companies undergo cannot be provided by schools alone, and therefore, in 2017, he initiated the "GOLF (Gap of Learning & Field )" alliance, bringing together companies such as AUO Corporation and Compal Electronics to connect universities with businesses. The alliance provides online courses, internships, and talent matching services to help students connect with the industry early on and strengthen their competitiveness in the workplace, while also enabling companies to find the talent they need.
Tatung University President Ming-Guo Her stated that while Dr. Huang has achieved success in his career, he has not forgotten talent cultivation and social welfare. Through collaboration and exchange with various universities and industries, he has taken corporate social responsibility into action with the power of teamwork. Dr. Huang, who graduated from the Department of Industrial Design, has been deeply involved in various fields for decades, with a forward-thinking and practical approach. He is the best example of Tatung University's motto, "Integrity, Honesty, Industry, Frugality, and Industrial Service," and is being awarded an honorary doctorate degree in design to recognize his outstanding contributions to the country, society, and education.
