"Opening up my mind was the greatest reward I received during my exchange program in the Netherlands," said Jian, Man-Jun, a junior student majoring in Media Design. She had just returned to Taiwan after participating in an exchange program at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. During classes, the professor required the students to work in groups and brainstorm ideas. Although the process was painful, Jian, Man-Jun clearly felt that her ability to generate ideas had increased. Cultivating creativity is especially important during her third year of college, as she is preparing for her final project and internship.
In addition to studying abroad, Jian, Man-Jun had a short internship at the Design Center of Cosmos Hotel during her freshman year. She joked that she was a "dragging bottle" because she was new to design and lacked experience. Furthermore, while assignments were only due once a week at school, in the corporate world, they demanded speed and quality, which was a big challenge for her. After returning to school, she set a goal to complete her assignments quickly and with high quality. Although she had planned to intern elsewhere during her third year, she now wants to return to Cosmos to see how her performance differs from when she was a freshman and to "make a little more contribution."
Taking advantage of the opportunities to study abroad and intern has allowed Jian, Man-Jun to realize that "design has too many aspects and possibilities." She is exploring and getting closer to her interests and, most importantly, has confirmed that she shouldn't "take the long way around" for certain aspects.
Tatung University provides opportunities for students to participate in study abroad programs, internships, and summer/winter camps. This summer, the camps will travel to France, Germany, Japan, and the United States to offer students different perspectives through academic and cultural exchanges, preparing them for future study abroad programs, dual degree programs, or work opportunities.
