Artificial intelligence is booming globally, and courses such as "Responsive Web and Mobile App Design" and "Deep Learning" are in line with the trend in Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). The CSE team has developed the world's first "no-code development tool for both mobile and web platforms", and their exclusive AI-powered railway and metro track inspection system is a significant breakthrough in enhancing public safety.
In addition to basic engineering training, engineering education emphasizes creativity and imagination. The Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Hsieh, Chen-Chiung explains that while AI is constantly changing the world's operations, "humans" are still crucial. For CSE students, the value of professionals lies in identifying and solving problems. AI is an assistant rather than a threat that can help to handle things "fast and well," saving time and energy, but human creativity is irreplaceable.
Game Design focuses on topics such as board games, digital games, game behavior, planning, and development. The department has a wide range of games for students to use as reference, we have plenty supplies so that other schools come to borrow them. Dr. Chen, Yen-fu personally collects nearly 100 sets of games. He joked that he initially prepared for his class, and to make up for the regret of being prohibited from playing video games during his student days. Through playing games, starting from the experience of the player, interface design, programming languages, and most importantly, "cooperation" and "negotiation," because a game "cannot be completed alone.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering cultivates professionals who "combine software and hardware to make the world better." "Artificial intelligence," "Internet of Things," and "Information Security" are all fields in which computer science plays a significant role, and "joint efforts between professors and students" can yield remarkable results.
The research team of the Smart IoT Research Center led by Dr. Cheng, Fu-Chiung and the entrepreneurship team led by Dr. Hsieh are the best examples of joint efforts between professors and students. The "Snap!Ionic: No-Code Cross-App Cloud Development System" developed by the Smart IoT Center has the characteristics of "convenience, low-code technology, and availability anytime, anywhere," which are in line with the global trend. Creating a custom app only requires three steps, saving at least 60% of development time and 80% of maintenance time compared to using native code, and reducing costs by at least half.
The "Smart Patrol Technology Co., Ltd." has received a prize of NT$950,000 from the Ministry of Education's " 2022 U-Start Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program," the highest amount ever awarded. It will be used for railway track inspections and future metro track safety.
"Computer science and engineering professionals are like magicians who can instantly and visibly change the world with hardware and software," Dr. Cheng described, what could be more attractive than this?
